日本語の「ツゲ」の語源には諸説あるようですが。

One theory goes that TSUGE keeps having new leaves in succession or TSUGI TSUGI TO.
And 「イ」at the start or the end of a Japanese word tends to be weakened for obvious reasons and it might have happened, if the theory is right, to TSUGI, pretty much like the town in Tochigi originally named 「一宮」 came to be called 「宇都宮」. But it’s just a fleeting thought.（和英混じり文の表記は私（たち）がわかりやすいように手前勝手になされたものです。）
説が多いのは大変ですが、説がないより面白いですね。そういえば、ピラミッドにまつわる諸説は次々とくつがえされ新設が掘り起こされているようですが。
