姉から茶が送られて来た。例によってイラスト付きで。

お茶は化学肥料・殺虫剤等不使用とあり、無茶苦茶有り難し。百万円積まれても手放しません。これを英語で言いたければ、「茶」を使った定番表現があります。

　　I wouldn’t give it away for all the tea in China.

スケールの大きい表現としては、

　　I wouldn’t miss their concert for all the world.

このfor all the X in Yのパターンをひとひねりすれば、次のような独自の新鮮な表現が出来ます。試験ではアウトでしょうが、試験以外なら、微笑む方もいるでしょう。

　　I wouldn’t do it for all the pasta in Italy.
　 I wouldn’t go there for all the sheep in New Zealand.
　　I wouldn’t work for them for all the potatoes in Idaho.

日本を知っている人には、

　　I wouldn’t accept it for all the matcha in Japan.
　　I wouldn’t work for them for all the apples in Aomori.
　　I wouldn’t change it for all the rice in Niigata.

これらの例は全て「たとえ・・・と交換と言われても・・・しない」という「たとえ話」なので、仮定を表すwouldn’tを多く使います。

コーヒー好きのぼくは、

　　I wouldn’t quit my blog for all the coffee in Kona.　

と、頭韻まで踏んで頑張ったけれども、コナコーヒーを全て積んでくれるなら、止めてよいかも。
