今朝、カラバサスからのビデオ電話に、こんなに年取ったのは初めてだよ、と言ったら、義理の息子のミゲル君が笑って、Congratulations!と返してくれた。
同じ朝、ベランダに、飛ぶのは数度見かけたナミアゲハが初めて停まっていた。蝶うれしい。
「ナミ」は「波」じゃなくて「並」なんだね。つまらん名をつけるもんだぜ、格付けなどするんじゃないぜ、きみはサイコーだぜ、と思う心を読んだのか、ドアを開けたらゆっくり飛んでいった。
テーブルにはカミサン手作りのケーキ。初めて見る。今回時間がなく、ドウナツたかなと思っていたところ。真ん中にぼくが好みのフレンチクルーラー。ローソクもぐさぐさと。火がついて。ひと昔前のSF火星探査船のようだ。

youngishと言われても気を悪くしない演技が出来るうちはyoungishでしょう。

I’m not that good at birthdays, especially mine.
I thought I’d post what happened yesterday, though, because there were several unconventional firsts that I liked a lot. Also, I think I found myself a bit more relaxed about the day.
Forty-four years ago—-you have a good memory! Do you remember where, too?
It was probably about 44 years ago. I think it was in Ken’s class at MLS, so it must have been there.
Looking back, those days were tough because I was working full-time while studying at Kanda Institute of Foreign Languages. However, the time I spent in your class was always so much fun and truly supported me through the hard times. Thank you once again for everything.
