会議や飲み会の前にIt’s hanabi time!と面白そうに言っていたＷＰ君は元気だろうか。
ここでは列島全体が大晦日のまだ明るいうちからhanabi nightになる。昨夜は近所も湧いた。硝煙と轟音。戦場のハッピーニューイヤー。ダウンタウンでは隅田川の打ち上げ場がお隣り、いやお隣り同士、というところが多数あるに違いない。
友だちのFluffyが亡くなり1人になったBlonderは、 周囲が揺れるほどの音に、いつもの寝場所から避難。寄らばタイヤ・・・也。

火事が一件も出ないのは立派だが花火の“質”のエスカレート振りは寝る子を泣かす勢い也。「お花火」にはこの場所が。２カ所で炎が上がったようだ。

今年も野菜をゆでたりサラダにしたりしてと思っている。
時間があったので念入りサラダ。英語島の人気食品SPAM入り。

これである程度one mealとなる。

新年のご挨拶代わりに、「遠山顕の英会話楽習」新年号の巻頭言から抜粋、やや短くしました。

「今月の歌」では、ジョニー・ナッシュの大ヒット曲I Can See Clearly Now （１９７２年）をリスニングします。この「今はハッキリと見える」という歌に、２つの数字を掛けてみました。 今年２０２０年と、真ん中にハイフンやスラッシュを置いた２０/２０です。どちらもtwenty-twentyと発音し、後者は日本の１．０の視力を指します。１００年前の１９２０年代はThe Roaring Twenties（狂騒の２０年代）と呼ばれました。２０２０年代はどうでしょうか。この歌のように雨が止み、明るくハッキリ見えることを願いつつ。

どちらも新年を迎えるということですが、ring in the new yearに関しては、テニソンの詩のRing out the old, ring in the new,に見られるように、教会の鐘との関係があり、bring in the new yearには、我が手でというニュアンスがあります。
