前回の大統領選挙でロシアの介入があったという報告がなされ国中が騒然としている。ニュース番組ではたとえば次のような言い回しをよく聞く。
Multiple actors are suspected to be involved.
これは複数の俳優の関与が疑われているわけではなく、「複数の当事者/関係者の関与が疑われている」ということで、組織も含まれる。

メリル･ストリープは（以外にも多くの「女優」が）I’m an actor.と言う。女性の俳優がわざわざ女性であることを強調するactressを使わない流れができている。ただaward for best actress/actorの区分けがあったほうが便利でしょう。

All the world’s a stage and all the men and women merely players.というシェイクスピアの言葉のplayerは、政治や経済面で重要な役割を果たす人物を意味することもある。actorはそこまで”華やかな”意味合いはなく、やはり政治や経済の世界での関与者/当事者という意味で広く使われている。

ちなみに小生が世界で一番好きな唱歌は読まずに食べては繰り返す「やぎさんゆうびん」。紙をもおそれぬ永遠なる食欲とコミュニケーション。loop という形式である。その内容を伝えたいなら一例を

英語にこんな歌があった。

昔、人形遣いのシャリ・ルイスショーで唄われたThe Song that Never Endsで、マーチ形式で威勢がよい。ある微笑ましきコメント：

長いトンネルを抜けて返り咲いた虎さん。

正直すぎのオンライン何でもござれの直訳ボックスが「過去からの爆風」と訳してくれる。うむ、今回はなかなか良いです。a blast from the pastは、忘れていたものがいきなりワッと現れるイメージ。ああこれ懐かしい！　これすっかり忘れてた！という感じ。

うーむ、問題発言多々ある人物だったが、彼にしか出来ないような言い回しは流石だ。

brain teaser「脳を悩ますもの」とは「頭の体操」のことで、若さを保つのに一役買っています。リドルもそう。Sudokuもcrosswordもそう。『英会話楽習』にもそうした機能を持ってほしいものです。今回はやや長い体操で、その道の人にはよく知られていて、結構ひっかかります。

湘南のコンサート。知人の鈴木哲雄さん属する「帆船日本丸（横浜みなと博物館繋留）を愛する合唱団」。
　男声だけでなく男性も大勢いらっしゃいます。
　昔高校で覚えたSailing, Sailingという有名な唄は定番らしい。そのほか随分多くの作品をユーモアを交えて次々に歌い上げていらしたのが一年前の鎌倉。今回は横浜。あのロッド･スチュワートの「セーリング」もあるそうです！
