Wind Rhyme

昨日取り上げた風のライムには、釣り人・漁師バージョンがある。

Wind from the West,
　fish bite the best.
Wind from the East,
　fish bite the least.
Wind from the North,
　do not go forth.
Wind from the South
　blows bait in their mouth.

ここでも西風がベストとある。
天気は西から東へ移動するから西風は時に悪天候をもたらす。
それを察知した魚はいまのうちに食べておこうと焦る。
台風前にスーパーが賑わうのと同じ理屈か。
というわけで西風の中の釣りはベストということになる。

このお馴染みのことわざを英語にしてみました。

Summer’s heat and winter’s freeze
the equinox helps appease.

天候関連のことわざ。英語には大変有名な「夕焼けは船乗りに良し、朝焼けは船乗りに悪し」があります。

Red sky at night, sailor’s delight.
Red sky in morning, sailor’s warning.

こうしたライミングを使ったものこそ覚えやすく、愛唱されるわけで、その他、「草に露あらば雨の来ることなし」

When dew is on the grass,
rain will never come to pass.

さらに「カエルの沼で鳴けば、雨じきに降る」

Frogs croaking in the lagoon
means rain will come real soon.

どうしてもlagoonなのでしょうか。そうです、とsoon。
最後は風向きのライムで結果を占ってみてください。

Riki君の英語　the otherとwill

数週間前のことなので、今はすでに更なる進化を見せていることだろうけれど、娘の話によると、彼は３つのボールを探していて、そのうち２個は見つけた、というシチュエーションの中で、むらさき色のが見つからず、The other one is purple.と言ったとのこと。
　残りのひとつをanotherでなくthe otherという区分法が、脳-声コネクションとして既にセットされているわけで、このthe otherの限定感があるからこそ、the other dayと伝えても、相手が「どの日？」と考えず、こちらの限定エネルギーのオーラに包まれるのをやぶさかとしないのだ。リキ君は「区分式」、つげ義春は「ねじ式」で、後者は未だに甘苦き謎だけれども。

　そのあと、If I can find it, I will be very happy.と言ったそうで、willは「だろう」でなく単純に未来の心情事象をあらわす「だ」だということを、つまり「もし見つかればとても嬉しい」と、I amとI will beの「区分式」をも獲得したようだ。彼は連日、五感や第六感や思考から生まれるものを必死さと楽しさとでどんどん言葉に転化せんとしており、かつその正当性・妥当性のチェックも続行中で、ビクトリア朝のChildren should be seen but not heard.なる格言から、なんと遠くへ来たものだ。Keep listening and practicing, Riki chan, and keep on smiling there!
