From 1790 as “a child’s doll;” applied from 1792 to any contrivance fancied to resemble a dolly in some sense, especially “a small platform on rollers” (1901). Doesn’t look like one to me, either, but that’s what they say.
Full fathom five thy father lies: Of his bones are coral made: Those are pearls that were his eyes: Nothing of him that doth fade But doth suffer a sea-change Into something rich and strange.
Longman Onlineでは、a very big change in somethingという説明のあと、a sea change in …
The accident caused a sea change in public attitudes.(その事故は国民の意識に大きな変化をもたらした)
There might be a sea change happening in the meaning of the phrase “sea change.”
The coqui is a small tree frog slightly larger than 2.5 cm (1 in) long, with colors varying from light yellow to dark brown. It has a round body shape and a broad rounded snout with obvious toe pads. They also make a distinctive “ko-kee” vocalization that can be easily heard. They are found on ground level and in trees and bushes, but their calls are primarily made from 1-2m (3-7 feet) high.
これはThis is a first time for me. その場でThis is a first!
A good friend is someone who thinks that you are a good egg even though he knows that you are slightly cracked.
